Fargesia nitida Great Wall is a very refined plant with a vertical tidy habit it has dark purple culms and grey-green slim leaves. A very versatile plant for light to half shade can be used as a screen or windbreak or as a lawn specimen or as a pot specimen. Height 3-4m clumping bamboo up to 1m in spread over 10 years.

Planting and Care

Plant with the addition of some organic matter and water in well do not let the plant dry out in the first six months its in the ground after this it should look after its self. The best food a bamboo can have is its own dead leaves and culm sheaths so leave them to mulch the base of the plant.

Planting position

Nitida is best grown in semi shade but will happily grow in a  sunny site.

Soil

Any reasonable soil is ok add organic matter to help the bamboo establish.

Container growing

As nitida is a clump forming bamboo it is suited to growing in a pot use a good loam based compost and dont let it dry out feed regularly.

Height and Spead

This Bamboo can reach 12ft/4m in height it is clump forming and should spread about 1m in ten years.
