About
Hedychium tara was collected as seed by Tony Schilling on the Eastern edge of the Kathmandu valley and named after his daughter Tara. The plant is thought to be a hybrid of H. coccineum and H. gardenerianium. It has tall stems with glaucous blue-green leaves. From July to October it produces tall spikes of bright orange flowers that have a strong fragrance, making it one of the best garden Hedychium. Hardy to -15 and grows to 2m in height.
