About
Hedychium ellipticum has broad ribbed green leaves and grows to 1.3m in height. The flower is very different to most hedychiums. It has creamy white flowers held upright in a cluster with protruding orange-red stamens - making it look like a shaving brush. Not the hardiest of the gingers, but it will take -7 or potentially even lower if well mulched. Will also make a fine pot plant.

Planting and care
Best planted in full sun or light shade in moist, humus rich soil. It will respond well to feeding throughout the growing season. Plant deep and give a good mulch for winter protection, or to guarentee full protection you can lift part of the corm and store it frost free during winter.
