About

Chusquea montana is a short robust member of the species it only grows 1-3m meters in height and comes from high altitude in Southern Chile. It is easy to distinguise because of its swollen nodes and very short branches. It has a compact upright tidy habit with narrow short leaves. Best in sun or semi shade great to give texture and form to a border where not to much height is needed Hardy to -18.

What you will recieve

The bamboo will arrive in a 4ltr pot and stand 1ft tall with 5-6 culms.

Planting and Care

Plant with the addition of some organic matter and water in well do not let the plant dry out in the first six months its in the ground after this it should look after its self. The best food a bamboo can have is its own dead leaves and culm sheaths so leave them to mulch the base of the plant.

Planting position

Chusquea montana will grow in full sun or semi shade.

Soil

Any reasonable soil is ok add organic matter to help the bamboo establish.

Container growing

Chusquea montana is a clump forming bamboo it is suited to growing in a pot use a good loam based compost and dont let it dry out feed regularly.

This Bamboo can reach 7-9ft/3m in height it is clump forming and should spread about 1m in ten years.
