Semiarundinaria yashadake f. kimmei
is a delightful form of the species that has lots of thin golden culms that can turn a dusky pink or red when grown in full sun the culms also have a green stripe above each branch. Kimmei is shorter than the species reaching 3.5m at most but usually shorter than this. The leaves are small and held on short stems close to the culm. This is a great allrounder good in full sun or semi shade vertical in habit with bushy foliage.
What you will recieve
The bamboo will arrive in a 5ltr pot and stand 3/4ft tall with 5-6 culms.
Planting and Care
Plant with the addition of some organic matter and water in well do not let the plant dry out in the first six months its in the ground after this it should look after its self. The best food a bamboo can have is its own dead leaves and culm sheaths so leave them to mulch the base of the plant.
Planting position
Kimmei is best grown in sun or semi shade and moist or dry soil and a is a very reliable garden plant.
Soil
Any reasonable soil is ok add organic matter to help the bamboo establish.
Container growing
Semiarundinaria kimmei is well suited to growing in a pot where it remains very upright in habit always use a good loam based compost and dont let it dry out feed regularly.
Height and Spead
This Bamboo can reach 4-5m in height and should spread to about 1-2m in ten years.
