About
Indocalamus latifolius has long, narrow deep glossy green leaves. It has a vertical habit with the leaves held outwards. Height can reach 2m.
Planting and Care
Best in light shade. Plant with the addition of some organic matter and water in well. Do not let the plant dry out in the first six months, and after this if it's in the ground it should look after itself. Pots of bamboo will continue to need watering. The best food a bamboo can have is its own dead leaves and culm sheaths so leave them to mulch the base of the plant.
Soil
Any reasonable soil is ok, add organic matter to help the bamboo establish.
Container growing
Indocalamus latifolius is a running bamboo, but it is suited to being grown in a pot. Use a good loam-based compost, don't let it dry out and feed regularly. You will have to split it every 5 years or so and repot it.
Height and Spread
This bamboo can reach 4-5ft/1-2m in height, it is clump forming and should spread about 2-3m in ten years.
