About
Fargesia rufa is a short bamboo growing to just over 2m. It has light green culms that have shrimp pink sheaths and pale green leaves. This is a quick bamboo to estabilish and has many uses in the garden - it is a great bamboo choice for a pot.
Planting and Care
Plant with the addition of some organic matter and water in well. Do not let the plant dry out in the first six months, and after this if it's in the ground it should look after itself. Pots of bamboo will continue to need watering. The best food a bamboo can have is its own dead leaves and culm sheaths so leave them to mulch the base of the plant.
Planting position
Fargesia Rufa is best grown in semi shade, but will happily grow in full sun - it will grow nearly anywhere!
Soil
Any reasonable soil is ok, add organic matter to help the bamboo establish.
Container growing
Fargesia rufa is a clump forming bamboo, it is suited to being grown in a pot. Use a good loam-based compost, don't let it dry out and feed regularly.
Height and Spread
This Bamboo can reach 8ft in height, it is clump forming and should spread about 1.5m in ten years.
